Plantar Warts
Plantar warts are non-cancerous skin growths caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV) that develop on the soles of the feet.
About Plantar Warts
Plantar warts develop when HPV enters the skin through tiny cuts or breaks, often in warm, moist environments such as swimming pools and locker rooms. They can appear as a single wart or in clusters (mosaic warts). Due to their location on the soles of the feet, they grow inward and can become painful when walking.
Common Signs
- A small, rough, grainy growth on the sole of the foot
- Hard, thickened skin (callus) over a well-defined spot
- Black pinpoints (small clotted blood vessels)
- Pain or tenderness when walking or standing
- A lesion that interrupts the normal lines of the skin
How We Treat Warts
Our chiropodists offer several treatment approaches depending on the size, location, and number of warts. Options include cryotherapy (freezing), salicylic acid-based treatments, debridement, and other professional methods. Multiple sessions may be required for complete resolution.
